Garmin 230 wont download apps update express

When Panic first launched pre-orders of its adorable little retro-inspired handheld gaming device, Playdate, it expected the first 20, units to ship by the end of — just in time, they hoped,.

There are dozens of devices out there that are eager to beat your muscles to within an inch of their tense little lives. To the watch lo. Microsoft is making its play for the new shape of classrooms with a pared-down version of Windows 11 and a set of inexpensive laptops from the Surface brand and several other manufacturers. Thanks Ray for the detailed explanation on how it works.

Just wanted to register my vote for Garmin to support this for Peloton. If it worked for Peloton, but only or newer, that might be enough to get me to upgrade watches… Just trying to let Garmin heart some additional feedback. Garmin would say correctly , this is actually on Peloton to open up. Maybe not completly on topic but when I do a workout bike with my garmin edge the recovery for that is not synchronized to my fenix3 and vica versa.

Do does devices not support that? Seems unnecessarily complicated with the only benefit being that you could get that information on the device immediately and without ever syncing.

I wonder if the activity distance in Garmin Connect shows as the Zwift distance or as Garmin distance? Typically the Garmin distance is shorter as the Zwift distance has other factors that impact speed such as drafting, gradient, equipment. Anybody tried this yet and seen if the Zwift data that lands in Garmin Connect is passed on to other 3rd parties such as Strava or MyFitness Pal? Can you confirm that any activity on those platforms without power contribute to your training load on the garmin connect?

A power meter is not required for training load. Interestingly, workout load and tss were also slightly different, somewhat lower if calculated via garmin device. Awesome, now just need Zwift to allow Heart Rate based workouts so I have no need to use my watch at all! Also, wonder if this will this work with the that only has recovery advisor but not training load? That way all my runs using AW6 with Stryd are counted.

That would require Garmin to actually have native way of using power in a run profile I would imagine. No training effect in the activity after Zwift I can see the load updated but no training effect any way to get it in? Classic Garmin, they do half of the job. I actually get NP just fine for my Zwift ride. Does not yet work for me on my Fenix 6. Updated zwift just cause. Love your deep dive review on the Fenix 6 on YouTube.

I wonder if it will come in a later update. I am used to track the workout on my watch and just discard it afterwards which was working pretty well to get the nice ride file recorded from Zwift and the training metrics from my watch. I was just thinking this would be a great feature for my Form goggles. Presumably both companies need to agree first then the devs need to write the API components. Hopefully this comes along soon! If we turn off Zwift to Strava, will Garmin connect send Strava the accurate workout details and distance etc?

How do you recommend dealing with the watch and edge not adding training load together? It pulls in that data, as well as any staged courses and other tidbits. Do you know if this works between Garmin devices, ie Fenix 6 and and older non training status Edge eg edge Or is that nurfed as it could impact upgrade sales for Garmin?

That is a very good question! I record on my Garmin watch, but can not look at it while riding in the forest. Am I the only one that is having trouble connecting Zwift and Garmin. I had no problems connecting Zwift to Strava. Garmin with the new Edge update and their take on heat maps, which was in the past a Strava feature — could that be the dip of the toe into into direct competition with other Strava offerings?

Like allowing other apps to push? So far no luck using the Edge I see the Zwift rides on GC and on the Edge but no training status. Should I complain to Garmin or to Xert? How comes you have your F watch showing at the top of the Load screen in mobile Garmin Connect app?

Still not seeing any Zwift activities appearing with 2 rides in 2 days that would have been productive on the HR effort and duration level. Looks like your need a PHD to understand all of this…. This must be only an Apple IOS Garmin Connect feature because last Android update is from May and there still no such a feature which still make me really disappointed. It was all done at the server level. Decided to give this a try. No need to use Virtual Run.

Anyone having a problem displaying the info on within Garmin Connect using a Garmin Fenix 5x. I synced a ride off trainerroad. Synced it to the watch and back. I can see the activity both on the watch and Garmin Connect but no updates to the training status. Also my intensity minutes for todays shows as zero. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated! Does the Recovery Advisor feature work better on the various Garmin watches than it does on my Plus? After every moderate 60 min sweet-spot workout, I get a notification warning me to stay off the bike for at least 72 hours.

Hi Ray, does that also work with. FIT files manually uploaded to Garmin Connect e. Within the. There are so many hidden attributes in the Garmin. True, though, the core is the standard, and the way the extras are there are standard.

Of course, I wish brands did a better job defining what some of that extra data was, ala Github style. What if you do a Trainerroad workout outdoors on a Wahoo do they update training stress? I suspect not, that would be the ultimate burn, but would be awesome if it did! All these calculations could happen behind the scene in Garmin Connect, not on the device itself.

I mention this because I have an Edge , and nothing I do on the counts towards the training load. So now, I ride with the on my bars to view all my metrics as I ride, but I also have to record on the Fenix on my wrist, and then I just dont save the ride, which is just there of display while riding… Not the best ….

Now, that said, I agree that I think long-term it needs to be concurrently calculated on either side, which also resolves the issue of having multiple devices with differing transient training status values. Was not long ago Garmin had a major outage due to ransomware, device based metrics will work better for the end user if Garmin servers are having issues of any kind.

Do I also need to own a Garmin watch? I have the and the activities from Zwift are synced to it but there is no load displayed. Further, they noted it was not paused either. The user must have uploaded a Garmin activity with Firstbeat data after February 10, The user must have HR data in the activity they record on the partner platform.

Did a outdoor ride with my Forerunner , wrist HR from said device, with Favero Assioma power meter on the 9th June — calculated training load — have since done a dozen Zwift rides on a Tacx Flux using a Polar H1 heart rate monitor — but nothing has updated training load.

Zwift activity is showing in Garmin Connet Calendar. Cheers — I have removed and reconnected Garmin and Zwift and checked software versions on watch, garmin connect app and desktop as well as Garmin express and have synch across mopbile app and garmin express and still nothing.

Damn, and I even took a shower too. Hi Ray — still no joy and nothing back from Garmin. Have done another watch based activity and checked training load updated which it did and then a Zwift activity — still no dice!!

Judging by the number of comments on this thread Garmin are missing something. I find the standard response of follow the FAQ steps. I would hazard majority of users are fairly tech savvy — especially as we get the devices for data and the like.

Thanks for all your input! I run almost daily with garmin so uploading activities all the time. Perhaps the rollout is complete across their US servers but in places like here South Africa , not. No luck for me either.

Using trainer road on the PC. Workout show up in Garmin Connect, but no training load. Garmin Connect is getting my rides from TrainerRoad with power and HR data, but no luck in getting training load. My Fenix 6 Pro and Garmin both show the rides as well, but no training load on the devices either. Will it work if you still record an activity on Zwift and your garmin watch,?

I am still tracking with my Fenix6 and Zwift, but am not seeing a training load from the zwift activity on my garmin connect. Have not heard back from HQ. Have some another long ride outdoors with Assioma power meter and recorded on , updated training load perfectly, did some more Zwift rides which I recorded as an indoor rode at the same time — indoor ride had a training load but not the Zwift one. Just to confirm — do you have another Garmin device besides the FR?

Off-hand though, I do think it supports recovery hours though. Any clues on what to do? So just to clarify, is this supported by Garmin Forerunner ? I do not think the FR supports power meters, is not the FR required for a cycle power meter? Ive always had the rides come up on my FR with all the metrics that I would expect from my Zwift ride, power, cadance, distance, time, etc. Training load not working for me from zwift rides I have garmin edge and a venu watch any help on getting this to work, ride showing up but no training effect.

I did a Zwift ride today to try this out. Seems like it might still be a slow roll out? So will still double record my ride with my Edge or Fenix 6 to have all data in Connect. I performed a Zwift workout this morning and synched to Garmin. The workout shows on my watch as an activity but has had zero effect on training load and recovery time.

I can see the heart rate and power zones for the activity in Garmin Connect. However there is no effect on training load. I have an Edge and a Fenix 6. I have completed several rides on Zwift this week and although the Zwift ride appears in Garmin Connect.

Have also synced and Fenix 6. I am not seeing any impact on Training Load or recovery times as others have reported. My swim from this morning shows up under Exercise Load in Garmin Connect for both my and my Edge , but my Zwift ride today does not.

HR was recorded. Yes to Garmin Created activity since Feb if you mean native recording on either Fenix 6 or Edge Same for me. Until now i still didnt see my Zwift Ride updated to Garmin Connect had such feature. It would be great if Garmin would include the Concept2 ErgData app in this program so that row, ski and Concept2 bike data would count. Sigh, I was excited for this, but like all things Garmin it looks like they half- ssed it.

I wish there was a Garmin focus group I could be part of to make the products better. Never mind that my Edge and Forerunner both have different training statuses abd exercise loads and different 7-day loads, but it appears like the Zwift activity only counts for 7-day load on one device.

I did a mostly zone 3 Zwift ride and it populated it as Base, on my Forerunner , and left it off my Edge Garmin makes it too complicated, should be server side not device side. My Zwift ride showed a load of My garmin recorded Not sure garmin is calculating Zwift load correctly.

I was feeling that load values of rides imported from Zwift were high for me, so today I recorded the same session on both my fenix 6s pro and on Zwift. I did a 1h58m ride and the fenix activity had a load of vs for the activity imported from Zwift. The duration was only a few seconds off, NP was the same, and avg HR actually 1 bpm higher on fenix.

I had to hunt to the training load page, since there was nothing in Training Status, vO2max, or Training Effect to indicate any change, even though my Zwift activities were synced no problem to GC on my phone and to my Edge again, thanks for the explanation of the double sync needed.

I hope its just the first step as you suggest, because frankly right now its a bit half-cooked. The data is all there after all. This whole discussion on sharing the load and effects got me thinking about reliance on metrics from different services and device manufacturers. I think I could personally do a better job on my training by not outsourcing the mental work to my watch but pay more attention to my intensity and recovery.

Wish it worked on my Venu 2. Had to do that to enable cycling FTP too. Still not working for me using an F5. I received a promo email from Garmin this morning with details of this new synchronised training status for zwift etc.

All it said I needed to do to ensure it worked was have the latest version of Garmin Connect 4. The activity showed training effect on my first which then synchronised with Garmin Connect.

It looks to me as though our issue could be related to garmin connect versions and a phased rollout? Since reporting that this feature was not working for me, I now notice that after my last two Zwift rides training load is being updated in Garmin Connect. I am based in the UK, and my assumption is that it may have something to do with the rollout of Garmin Connect app 4.

Garmin UK are saying that I need to use a Garmin product for the activity. Paying the subs is probably worth it and ditching the Garmin ecosystem. True in terms of recovery etc I was just thinking in relation to relative effort. I hear you. In this case my friend gave me his old Edge Does the file capture the manufacturer of the HR monitor?

For those that have this working for them. Has anyone tried double recording an activity both on their device as well as zwift so that V02 gets updated on your device to see the impact on training load? Does training load and recovery time get doubled up or not?

But in Watopia the Map is rubbish anyway and I just edited the activity in the app afterwards. I guess if you use the Zwift FIT file to create a route and use that on the Edge, you should get it all, the data, the map, the accuracy and it accounts to everything in the Garmin Environment!?

Zwift and Garmin Connect are linked. From what I can tell polar gives you this kind of feedback for multiple activities. Just in case anyone misses it, Reply 17 has solved the issue for a couple of us that has had issues not seeing the load. So I did my first Zwift ride today, I paired the turbo with iOS app and separately with my Fenix 6s, power and cadence , I recorded an activity on the watch and synced both activities to Garmin Connect — I understand why Zwift has a longer distance virtual downhills , but why does it have a significantly different training load : link to imgur.

Where do you find the data to display the top half of your picture? This is one of my main stats of interest. Anyone else similarly affected? Maybe this is the new variable that has caused a problem. Yep, I see the same thing. And with the new Improved Fitness Age of the Forerunner , it screws that stat up. It started working for me today, after I tried the suggestion above of recording an indoor activity.

However, I also see no Intensity Minutes, which I really miss. I can also see it on my watch FR Did you try doing a workout by connecting your watch directly to your trainer and recording the workout like that with HR? The Zwift ride after that showed Training Load. After all, the whole point of these metrics is having a Garmin device. Just confirming my experience in regards to the VO2 comments and questions that seem to be peppering the comments. Todays test was to run the watch Fenix 6 in tandem.

When complete I synced the Zwift ride and it showed up. This allowed the watch to then have the Zwift ride sync to it and then back again to Connect.

After which no change in VO2 and it was a really hard workout that I managed to complete so I was sure it should have bumped the value up.

In the end I resumed the indoor ride on the watch and stopped and saved it properly and instantly it calculated a bump in VO2 which then went into Connect. Garmin HRM strap 2. HRM reported to Schwinn Echelon 2 head unit 3. Power, cadence reported to Schwinn Echelon 2 head unit 4. Zwift ride data automatically uploaded to Garmin 7. Fenix 5x on my arm, not in any recording mode. So at end of ride, and after waiting for a couple of syncs, I get: 1. Training Status — Load gets updated 2.

Intensity Minutes gets updated. I can live with this 2. Physio TrueUp is enabled on my watch as well. Any ideas? Trying with Sufferfest to my Forerunner Music.

On June 29th I received the email newsletter from about about the changes to the training load via Zwift and other apps. So this information made me curios and I was looking forward to make use of this development. But my feeling was that it was not working properly. So after reading a lot of comments and the support info at link to support. All necessary accounts are connected and transferring data correctly. Garmin Edge was powered off during activity since it was not needed but synced afterwars multiple times from the app Android V4.

The results were sobering. The activities 1- 3 had no effect on Training Status. Training Load was not updated on the edge device. If the implementation from Garmin was working properly and an all Garmin setup was needed, then the first activity should have counted in. If I take a look into the Training Effect Report in the Garmin Connect App, then only an activity from one week ago and the actitvity 4 are shown.

So, in your case, you would need to have paired your Edge Plus to your Tacx NEO, and recorded at least one ride after February and before you started the 3rd party apps. So the criteria for the compatible 3rd party software should be met in case 1- 3. So the FR was never recording, just supplying data towards a compatible software. The other session was the one mentioned yesterday same setup. So I would consider 2 sufficiently met. The 3rd party apps are connected since ages. Zwift is connected sind June and Tacx Training since about November My understanding of your last sentence is that the ride with the Garmin device and power has to be done before I connect 3rd party apps?

You must record and sync at least two running or cycling activities per week that generate a VO2 max: Runs must be recorded outdoors with GPS tracking and heart rate data. Indoor runs will not generate a VO2 max. Cycling can take place indoors or outdoors, but the rides must be done using a power meter and heart rate data. If not recorded as an activity on your Garmin device, only activities uploaded from the Tacx Training app, Zwift, TrainerRoad, or Sufferfest will count towards Training Status.

You must still wear your Garmin device during these activities to record heart rate and power meter if cycling data, and must still also meet the other requirements noted above. So there is not written that I have to disconnect and reconnect any services. But I can check if this would be helpful. Seems to be working for many most? Tried this yesterday. One of the problems with having a large feature matrix is testing the whole feature surface is difficult. The alternative is possibly the sluggish pace of features rolled out on the Descent series where they have liability concerns for much more careful testing.

This is a balance that they have not found yet, and to be fair is difficult to find across the industry. Garmin has had a lot of high profile bugs and systemic failures in the last year and I hope they are working hard internally to improve their processes. I have a fenix 6X and have only used it and not every model. These burn time estimates are overly optimistic if you are using navigation — even without course points for turns.

Navigation burns more power. I have some friends who do but the last ultra event we did in December, it rained the entire time. If you are at the margin where solar makes the difference you need to have a battery pack to recharge. You can charge while recording the activity. Your mileage may vary. It means you can have success while thinking about it a lot less. I would say the majority of people have trouble wrapping their heads around all the fenix features including power manager — especially in a race context.

The display timeout saves a lot of battery. I have practiced long training runs with it but would not use it unless I really was concerned about battery life. I use 1sec recording. Smart recording is a lit saving space for the resulting. When you set your power mode to max battery mode — where it turns off the screen timeout , does the screen wake up using gesture? I had a 6x pro which did that. I returned it to get a 6x pro solar for various reasons. I think this is a pretty cool feature — to put the display to sleep and then wake up on a gesture.

Can you test yours and let me know if it wakes up using gesture or do you have to press a button to wake up the blank screen. I have f6X sapphire. It is exactly as reliable as the backlight gesture after dark during an activity. Sometimes you have to shake your wrist.

The backlight button will also wake it up. So, I might just have a buggy part. I asked support and they said — it will not wake up on gesture. The support is not very good at knowing how something should work. If they had documentation that said how it should work, it would help everybody — customers, support. I was so sure it was waking on gesture when I last tested it. It definitely is not now on I remember it being annoying but workable. We were doing every long run with the timeout mode enabled for a couple of months to be sure it was a practical mode.

It defeats the purpose. I might normally say they should have made an option but there are really too many options already and for the intended purpose of maximizing battery, turning on the display manually makes sense.

For me when I set the power mode to max battery and once I start navigation, the screen will go blank. Gestures woke up the screen in one device — this was pre I liked this as if I was using hiking poles in both hands, I can do a gesture, look at screen, make sure I am on track and go back to hiking.

In another device that is now at Screen goes blank and then when I need to see the screen, I have to press a button. Maybe this is an unintentional bug and the gesture is still supposed to work. You should try the Beta garmin.

Thanks for the feedback, Brian. The Power Manager feature definitely adds a wrinkle in the discussion and the decision matrix — especially assuming it gets added to the successor hopefully later this year! But for races, even the 6S could likely get you through a without charging and without having to compromise on core GPS. The more I think about the Enduro, the more the hesitation is the size and still, price.

The Enduro is still an intriguing offering. The difference in weight between the enduro and the fenix 6X is almost entirely the band. The fenix 6X pro solar titanium is only 2g more without the band than the enduro titanium. The fenix 6X sapphire weighs exactly the same as the enduro steel without the band. Maybe the fenix 6S does what you need and you will be happy. I have the strong intuition bias that the 47mm and 42mm even more so make engineering compromises to reduce the size.

In my experience the 51mm case models work the best. The forerunner was released after the Marq but before the fenix 6 and shares the same internals. I think that is a strong indication that the feature differentiation between the fenix and Marq is meant to include the Power Manager. I think Garmin intends the f9xx series to primarily appeal to triathletes to have enough power to complete an Iron Man. The enduro is a specialty fenix that is tuned for maximum battery life for ultra running — but maybe slightly less favorable for adventure racing where the advanced maps have more utility.

Certainly less favorable for listening to music during training runs or buying a coffee with tap-to-pay. I think the ideal target for the enduro is well-marked ultra running events that are over km in length. It has a 2. It has a breadcrumb trail and it displays custom waypoints. It provides 48 hours of GPS. I wish they will get rid of the AAA batteries and put in a Li-ion which can easily then get hours to reduce the depth or height of the watch and clean up some of the interfaces — it will be a pretty compelling navigation device.

It will have to be a dedicated navigation device. Brian Reiter; Very interesting info on weight. Suddenly by taking a Fenix 6X pro and changing the strap for that of the enduro, we can have the mapping, an autonomy between 60 and 80 hours in recording 1 sec depending on the settings and a watch at the same weight. Navigating using only turn-by-turn directions on trails without a map is quite frustrating for the following reasons:.

The watch vibrating every time at every sharp bend of trail is so annoying that I just switch turn notification off. But without that it gets even easier to miss real turns. But it is useless for technical trails. There is a hard limit of turns per course for the fenix.

If you exceed that, it will warn you when you load the course and what happens is the turn by turn alerts just stop after the th. Your choices are to break your run into detailed turn by turn courses with or less course points each. Where I do trail running, most of the paths are quite wild and twisty: turn by turn is just hopeless. I only use it for road running.

It will give you a line to follow on the map and off course warnings but no turn by turn directions. Yes, of course I use course track navigation too rather than a dynamic routing. All my comments above apply to GPX courses loaded to the watch via Garmin Connect or, for example, by syncing a Strava route. Yes, it is possible to side load the course and avoid Garmin Connect auto-generating turns, and have your own custom turns or custom waypoints, but that is much less convenient.

I got the Enduro. I am not able to see the waypoints I have defined on the map. Were you able to see them while navigating? I have contacted Garmin — but was just curious if you had defined waypoints and if you were able to see them on the map. For your Fenix 6X, is that on the latest firmware — which is effectively the Enduro firmware?

This was pre-Enduro firmware on F6X. Will wait for Garmin to answer. I was with Garmin support. I have to return Enduro.

When I am on a multi-day backpacking trip, I would like to know what lake I am encountering on the trail, the camp spot I want to camp at, the peak I am standing on — especially without maps. I asked the support person — are you sure? Courses with waypoints do work. That will then only contain the custom Course Points you added. That shows how clueless Garmin is about what ultrarunners need. In ultra races having waypoints on courses is super helpful to track distance remaining to each aid station.

I used that multiple times with Fenix 6 and before with Suunto 9. A bad oversight or miss on the part of Garmin. It is very lightweight. Or maybe tech folks have it wrong….. Then there is no way to go back and see how far you are off from the previous one if you wanted to turn back as your next feed station is far away etc. If you can see the waypoints on the trail, then you know visually if you are close by or far away etc.

I can scarcely believe this is true. The fenix 3 and 5 supported waypoint flags on a breadcrumb path. Because, chat support is hit or miss sometimes based on who you get.

The guy said he is going to test it on various devices and get back to me after talking to tech team. I disabled the topo layers on F6X Pro to save power. I can still see the trail with waypoints. I have enclosed the file if you want to try it. Once you select the course, you can just see the map and you can see the trail with waypoints on F6X Pro while you will not see it on Enduro. I only brought home the Enduro tonight, so will have to try a F6 model in morning.

What I have noticed is that if you create a trail with waypoints on Connect and download it to watch, you will lose the waypoints. Caltopo, gaiaGPS etc are great tools for creating backpacking routes with waypoints and gps files.

I create fit file using plotaroute software:- I know it is painful with all the limitations. But, i have figured out a way to make these things work! Garmin support has now confirmed that Enduro will NOT show user defined waypoints on the trail — through chat who confirmed with their tech team, phone support person on phone who actually played with the various devices and talked with their development team and called me back after a few hours of trying.

He said he can ask for feature request — but no guarantee that it will be implemented in Enduro. There multiple treads on Garmin Forum about Garmin Connect overwriting custom user waypoints because internally turn-by-turn directions use exactly the same format.

So even though this feature exists in Garmin Connect course editor, for all practical reasons it is broken, and has been broken for awhile. Furthermore, if you upload a course via Garmin Connect, Distance to Next and Next Waypoint show distance to next autogenerated turn and next turn name. PlotARoute is the only viable workaround as far as I know. I am pretty sure Garmin has been aware of this issue for years, but they do nothing about it.

Enduro just further highlights of how broken that is because it is targeted at ultra-runners and long distance hikers who need custom on-course waypoints the most. While a few of us think we need user defined waypoints on the trail, how do others feel? Is this a limitation that is not a big deal? Just curious as to what ultrarunners etc think — which is the target audience of this watch. I confirmed with Garmin engineering last night that the above is indeed a bug, and they also confirmed it will be fixed.

Thanks a lot for all the help and this update. Now, I am wondering if I should get the Enduro back It seems like the support and engineering teams are not all aligned properly. Anyways, it is good news that Enduro will have waypoints. Please let us know when the fix is released. I have a late June backpacking trip and I am not sure if it will get fixed by then. So, perhaps I may just have to hold on to my F6X Pro.

Actually I had a question….. Otherwise, it may take some work to get that functionality. What I was told was, that Instinct and some versions of Fenix 6 that do have have mapping functionality do not support waypoints on a breadcrumb trail.

But course points will still give you distance to next and alerts as you approach. GC behaves differently in these two scenarios. Export To PC will only include your custom course points, where as it is device dependent what it does with course points when sending to a device.

Not for creating maps. I use caltopo for creating maps and lots of waypoints aka course points. I then save it as a gpx. Then when I navigate, I can see all the custom waypoints on the map screen. Enduro does not have mapping. Just a line of your custom trail. So there are two firmwares: 1 premium devices which has mapping,.

Using this relationship, an estimation of VO2 max can be made at moderate work loads. There is a relationship between heart rate, work load running speed, cycling power and oxygen consumption. The Storer equation seems the most accurate for cycling, incorporating power, age, weight. This formula uses a ramp protocol but evidence indicates that a 4 minute maximal interval power will be equivalent.

Respiratory rate can be derived from ECG signals by multiple means. Only HRV related methods are possible with a chest belt. Objective and personal data do not show equivalency in Firstbeat respiratory rate metrics compared to true physical measurements Hexoskin.

However, there is a loose correlation in pattern between the two methods that may or may not have value in exercise training. VO2 max estimation by Firstbeat systems depends on accurate heart rate and power measurements. For running, a clear GPS signal must be obtained. For both running and cycling, heart rate should be measured by chest belt for both optimal precision in rate and HRV.

There is a lack of published, peer reviewed data on the correlation and error range of the Firstbeat VO2 max estimates when compared to gas exchange. Hopefully, outside groups will be able to repeat and corroborate their findings. Using the VO2 max estimate to compute a maximal aerobic power value MAP for training purposes is problematic. If one is interested in a MAP value for training purposes, using a continuous 3 to 5 minute cycling interval is recommended.

How about a solar cell flexible film integrated on the wrist strap? Can it lead to an order of magnitude improvement in battery efficiency? Now you need to figure out how much power the Enduro or any watch you want to run this way uses. I doubt that a watch band would change that since the area is just too small and only a small portion would be oriented towards the sun at any time.

If you were really serious about running on solar power probably the best way would be to buy one of the charging pucks that Ray recommends a thinner one would be nice , strap it to your wrist with the watch, and run the cable to a solar panel vest that you wear. Then you might be able to run the watch entirely on solar power. Area is king when it comes to solar power.

Because Garmin removed the sleep widget feature for because in the release description it was there. So it discourages me to buy new equipment from Garmin. Very shortly. I have one of these on pre-order right now here in Canada. I know there are no maps but can I upload a detailed track and follow it? Typical GPX file with hundreds or thousands of track points? Assuming that the Enduro navigation features derive from the fenix 6, track points should be uncapped and limited only by storage.

In this case there will be turn by turn alerts and then it stops. BaseCamp does not do this. In rugged terrain, I find course points and turn by turn useless.

Waypoints are essentially custom point of interest. They can have different icons. There is a label length limit which will be truncated. You can change courses during an activity without stopping. This can be a workaround to the course point limit by breaking your journey into segments.

A very large course with tens of thousands of track points takes a while to load but will work once loaded. This will take a little while. I believe you need elevation data on your track points in order for the ClimbPro feature to work, since there is no onboard map elevation data. Thanks for that detailed and helpful reply Brian.

It sounds like it will do just what I need in my case. Well, not really, but they might. Garmin would cry. With many of the first beat metrics based on hrv I wonder if there is much impact on the metrics between using the watch with us built in hr sensor, using the watch paired to a chest strap non optical over ant, using the watch paired with a chest strap non optical over Bluetooth.

Ant can drop packets causing signal artifacts while Bluetooth will retransmit packets not received so give better data. Yes I think your second point nails it. Meanwhile, the impact of incorrect data from some optical HR sensor in certain workout types can for some people happen the entire workout. Is there still any chance to how some of these features in ? Cause I cant see any new update.

Hoping to see the VO2 updates soon in the I do the majority of my easy running on trails. My watch has now stopped showing training status as I havent done a road run for a while! Hopefully this inclusion of trails into the algorithm fixes this?

Or will it just add to the VO2 max and not the training status? Any idea Ray? I am in a bit of a dilemma right now and would love your opinion on it. Question is — Wait for Fenix 7, or go for Fenix 6X now. I had the fenix 5. Lost it in Thailand while jumping off of a boat, back in Had a fenix 3 before that. Been using an apple watch since then. But i really miss the fenix watches, their versatility, their sturdiness and sports fitness capabilities.

I am into Crossfit primarily and additionally do 10k m runs. I do hikes and bicycling and other sports stuff for fun. Do i wait for the fenix 7 series, or do I buy the Fenix 6X Sapphire now? Because that is a nearly 2 year old watch now. I would buy a Fenix 6X Sapphire.

I have the Fenix 6X Pro Solar with the optional rally-fun pack and it can get me through a trail miler with heart rate, music and GPS. The Enduro adds additional hours but IMO not enough to, say, get through a mile race.

No maps is not ideal, no music is no deal. I have one on order. In my case I like the extra juice for multi-day trips where I can reduce or eliminate recharging. Really all I care about is long battery life and a solid GPS track. The only factor I can think of is how the Power Management feature might project the battery life out much further on the Enduro. Battery life is important, but weight also makes a big difference for day-to-day wear and racing scenarios.

I have a 5. But, the battery is losing its charge can no longer do 24 hours and it takes 2 to 3 minutes to lock on to GPS. The last backpacking trip — I had to recharge every day and once the battery died for no reason in the morning when I got up.

That is the only reason I am in the market for a new watch. If you already have a 6X, then there is no need to upgrade. But, if you are in the market for a new watch, then does one want to get a 6X Pro solar or the Enduro? I think if you are going to spend the similar amounts on either watch and want 60 or so hours, then Enduro is pretty attractive.

Cheapest 6x Pro is and cheapest Enduro is Of course you can buy a 6 or 6s for less price and use a battery bank to re-charge. But, since I am making a big investment that is going to last for me at least 5 to 7 years , I would like to buy the best watch with the longest battery life.

If I look at my use case — biking or backpacking, I will always have my phone with me. Therefore not having maps or music is not a problem for me. I suspect everyone carries the phone with them all the time. So, in the rare occasion you need to look at maps, you can take a look at it on the phone and use your watch just for navigating by looking at the bread crumb trail. So Coros Vertix at or Enduro at ?

I guess this is where you have to make a judgement call about the better ecosystem Garmin has plus some may not like the dial on Vertix etc.

Not interested in the Enduro but really keen on that new band. If you care about weight, absolutely. Just the right amount of stretch.

And you can adjust to pretty much any length. Seems to hold surprisingly well. Got the new band and put it on my Fenix 3hr. I have numerous bands and this is the most comfortable for everyday wear but especially running. If you have a 3hr, 5x, 6x, etc. Hi, just a quick question about sport modes on garmin in general. Is there some table to compare the basics. Like what type recording interval on gps, heart rates and other features of specific mode?
